Volvo India gifted a brand new white coloured luxury car, S-80 V8 to Abhinav Bindra at a function in Chandigarh. The Rs. 44 lakh luxury sedan was present to Bindra by Volvo India's Managing Director, Paul de Voijs, who said, "It is purely a sporting gesture in recognition of what Abhinav has achieved." The ceremony was held at Taj Hotel in Chandigarh where Paul de Voijs handed over the keys to Bindra. He also clarified that it does not mean that Abhinav Bindra would be the brand ambassador for the company.

Abhinav Bindra has recently won a gold medal for India in shooting at the Beijing Games recently. He has been brought up in an affluent family and he had spent nearly Rs. 1 crore on training for Olympics. He has also become the first Indian sportsman to have won largest prize money ever won by any sportman for a single success. He has won nearly Rs. 2 crore for his prized gold medal at Beijing Olympics.
Abhinav Bindra commented that he was honoured by the gesture from Volvo. His father, AS Bindra was the first Volvo customer in Punjab when he purchased its XC 90 model. His father owns a fleet of luxury cars including Mercedes S class.
