Audi sales in India are up by 64 percent in last 10 months from January to October 2009. The company intends to clock more sales by making its models more competitive. Audi intends to assemble more cars in India. Currently, nearly all its models are imported as completely built units which attract 104 percent import duty. It has its plant in Aurangabad and its will start assembling A4 and A6 models next year. The Q5 model will enterthe assembly line from 2011. Audi will assemble the models at its plant according to the demand from the market. It will also increase its dealership network from 12 to 18 by 2011.

Audi has sold 1449 cars in the current calendar year and has set a target of selling at least 1600 cars next year. “Audi India has continued its sales momentum in October 2009. We have again shown growth, this clearly demonstrates our consistency in performance. Our consistent sales growth is also a strong indication of the increasing familiarity and wide acceptance of the brand by car enthusiasts across the country,” said Benoit Tiers, managing director, Audi India.

Audi has launched three new models in India this year – A6, Q5 and Q7. It has also introduced new engines in A4 series of its cars. Audi has already invested Rs. 210 crore in its India operations. Next year, there will be new dealerships at Jaipur, Coimbatore and Nagpur. It will also launch one new model in India every year starting from Delhi Auto Show 2010 next year in January.
