Audi R8 e-tron sets world record at Nürburgring Nordschleife

Audi R8 e-tron, one of the most popular sports cars in the world, has set a new feat at the world’s toughest track - Nürburgring Nordschleife. The R8 e-tron has set a world record for the production version driven with an electric drive system. The car which was driven by racing driver Markus Winkelhock, performed considerably high with completing 20.8-kilometre track in just 8:09.099 minutes, setting a new world record.
Speaking on this achievement, Michael Dick, Audi AG Board Member for Technical Development, said, "The R8 e-tron has given a magnificent demonstration of its potential on the toughest race track in the world."He added, "The record-setting drive confirmed that we are on the right track. To us, electric mobility has never been about sacrifice, but rather is about emotion, sportiness and driving pleasure."
The record time of 8:09.099 minutes is considered a very high performance for an electric drive system driven car. In comparison, a 515 kW (700 hp) Audi V8 petrol engine driven a Gumpert Apollo Sport, had set a record lap time of 7:11.57 minutes.
