Audi Electric “E-tron” Division
Following suit of Mercedes and BMW, now Audi has set up its e-Tron division which is the special performance office to cater to development of electric cars. Audi is also geared up to unveil the production ready models of e-Tron concepts. The new division will build a whole new range of electric performance cars. “You can assume we’ll have not just one but two or three or even more electric cars,” said Filip Brabec, general manager of product planning for Audi of America.
The model produced under e-Tron concept will have different brand names to differentiate between them with the first model coming out in 2012. Audi is also planning two more models that will introduced in 2012.
Audi initially plans to roll out 100 units of its electric models with manpower of about 100 employees. It will ramp up its production capacity to 1000 units after assessing the market response. According to Audi President, US, Johan de Nysschen, the electric vehicle line will definitely be a pricier bargain owing to the high price of lithium –ion batteries.
