100cc Bike from Suzuki in India
SUZUKI Motorcycle India Private Limited has expressed its intention to launch its 100cc bike in India. Its current lowest capacity motorcycle is “Heat” which is a 125cc bike. The Indian subsidiary of the company has already undertaken a feasibility study on this segment and it is gearing up to chalk out robust strategies to make its prices competitive.
Suzuki India has a relatively small market share in the Indian two-wheeler segment. The company now plans to invest nearly Rs. 150 crore by 2010 towards their expansion plans in India. It is also aiming to expand its production to 2.5 lakh units from its current capacity of 1.75 lakh units. It is also planning to launch two new models in the country next year.
SMIPL vice-president (marketing & sales) Atul Gupta spoke about their plans for India: “So far we have invested Rs. 400 crore. We will be looking at an additional investment of Rs 150 crore by 2010 to expand our capacity. We will launch new bikes in different segments to diversify our portfolio.” Suzuki has already launched its GSR 150 in India that will go on sale in the market early next year.
