Recall seems to be the “happening” thing these days. Toyota, Honda, Peugeot Citroen, Maruti and now it is Hyundai’s turn. Hyundai has halted sales of its 2011 Sonata models in the US market. Hyundai has reported door lock problems in its 2011 Sonata models which sent its shares tumbling by 4 percent.

Hyundai Motor Co. announced that it will recall 47,300 models of Sonata in Korea and the US market due to problems with the door lock. Of these, 1300 have been sold in the US market while 46,000 will be recalled in the domestic market. The model was launched in the Korean market in September and in US this month. Hyundai has taken this step as a preventative measure to avoid any unfavorable situation.

Toyota story has sent the auto industry reeling under pressure to take up safety norms and regulations seriously. "To avoid a possible occurrence of the problem, Hyundai has been applying modified parts to some of its Korean and US production models," the firm said in a statement, adding there had been a "handful" of customer complaints.
