The BMW x5 xDrive40e was the first plug-in hybrid production car from the German automaker, which was showcased as a concept at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The BMW x5 xDrive40e is powered with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and a synchronous electric motor that produce a combined power of 230 kW/ 313hb. The SAV has a combined electricity consumption of 15.3 – 15.4 kWh and a combined fuel consumption of 3.3 – 3.4-litres kmpl. It delivers lower CO2 emissions at 77-78 grams per kilometer.

Boosted the BMW eDrive technology, the plug-in hybrid SAV offers all-electric mobility with zero tailpipe emissions, exceptional performance and commanding driving experience. The Lithium-ion battery supplies power to the electric motor through an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. With flexible charging options, the battery can be charged by a standard 12V electrical power socket or at any public charging stations.

The intelligent hybrid engine control system further optimizes its efficiency by synchronizing the engine and the electric motor functioning. Like other hybrid BMW cars, the SAV comes with an eDrive button, affixed on the centre console that enables the driver adjusting the hybrid drive’s operating mode. In the AUTO eDrive mode, the engine power is boosted when the electric drive increases vehicle’s acceleration or pickup.

The x5 xDrive40e can achieve 0-100kmph sprints in 6.8 seconds. The MAX eDrive mode can be alternatively engaged, enabling the vehicle to operate only on electric power and results zero emissions. With fully charged high-voltage battery, the SAV, in the all-electric mode, offers a range of up to 31 kilometers with a top speed of 120kmph. While, the SAVE battery mode accumulates the electrical energy for further all-electric driving purpose.

The SAV comes with three driving modes – COMFORT, SPORT and ECO PRO. Most BMW cars are offered with BMW ConnectedDrive mobility services and driver assistance systems for better driving experience, so as the x5 xDrive40e. The BMW ConnectDrive and BMW 360° electric hybrid-specific services make it an advanced and more convenient vehicle than other green cars.

Unlike other green cars, the x5 xDrive40e comes loaded with plenty of equipment options such as navigation system professional, auxiliary heating and ventilation system, adaptive suspension package comfort, pure excellence packages, design pure experience and M sport package.
