LCD and display technologies have evolved at a rapid pace in last few years. The present day display units extract very little power and carry an ability to display more than four thousand images. Their few millimeters thickness saves them from getting shattered, enable tactile sensitivity, and make them capable of responding to mere touch of finger tips. However, until now we only observed them with rectangular shapes over wall surfaces and car dashboards.
Sharp took the responsibility of changing this monotony and introduced the Free Form Display recently. The new LCD from Sharp carries flexibility in terms of shape and can be manufactured in the most complicated formations. What it refers to is that the new cars panels need not be boring anymore and can be as sporty and jazzy as the car design itself. You need not cover the display corners and these can be manufactured in the correct shape.
The Sharp’s LCD panel is made with the combination of IGZO-TFT backplane technology and a completely new circuit board framework. The scope for new shape comes from the fact that the drive circuit gets shifted to a completely new area of the display which is well-hidden by the bezel. The circuitry has been dispersed by Sharp with original pixels which bestow the maker with freedom to look out for new screen shapes.
What makes Sharp’s LCD instrumentation more interesting is that it opens up new horizon for wearable devices and less wastage of screen area beneath the casings. It also infers that the new Free-Form LCD Displays will face high demand now and one can expect these to be sold with a fat premium. The company hasn’t disclosed any date for its retail production, however, it ensures to bring the product to floors as soon as possible.
