Saying that German automobile powerhouse Volkswagen has a niche market in India would not be wrong despite its growing popularity. Though there are plenty of Volkswagen cars in India on sale, only a few of them have been able to make a mark. The fact that Volkswagen car dealers in India are mostly found pitching the Polo and Vento models to customers says a lot. However, given how top class a brand Volkswagen is and it does not sell the most fuel efficient cars in India, sales are bound to be low as compared to Hyundai or Honda. In order to change the scenario, the German giant is said to be investing in green cars. The firm has mapped the potential demand for hybrid cars in India and Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid could mark its entry into this particular peripheral. The model is expected to come equipped with a 1.4-litre I-4 engine, which will belt out a maximum power of 150 bhp. Along with, a seven speed Tiptronic auto-shift manual transmission is also expected in the car.

At present, Polo and Vento are the best Volkswagen cars in India and quite rightly so. Though there is not denying the quality of Jetta and Passat, the understanding of Indian customers often turns out to be a deterrent. For instance, not many Volkswagen car dealers in India would be able to convince a customer to choose an INR 30 lakh model from their firm over an Audi. The lower end models are not among the fuel efficient cars in India, which considerably reduces its market. However, demand for hybrid cars in India could be an outlet for Volkswagen that would help the firm raise its market share. Experts believe that Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid is one of the best green cars in the world and would definitely attract a lot of buyers in India.

Toyota Prius is one of the best green cars in the world but still has not achieved much success in India.  This automatically means Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid will have to be marketed really well by the German automaker to make it one of the best hybrid cars in India. Industry experts feel that Volkswagen car dealers in India will play a huge role in making this sedan a success. Since the awareness levels of people about hybrid vehicles are low, dealers will have to be well informed and convince buyers about the car’s abilities. If this does happen then Jetta Hybrid can go on to create a path for more Volkswagen cars in India.
