Hi,
Going for modification to diesel engine is always a risky as there can arise much problem in long term as it can only be serviced in local work shops. However if prefering to modify than Toyota engine would be better as it has been used much in conversion to diesel engines.

Autoland 4000 will be the best engine for your gypsy.
Otherwise petrol is the best.

Actualy, i wont support alterations in engine, many ways it will end in loss of money, reg probs, and insurance claims also,,,always i like to be genuine,,,not worth to spend much cash for gypsy, ven if its petrol,,its dfcult to afford,,,then think abt diesal alteration

Toyota 2C Engine is best for Gypsy. I have modified my gypsy with this engine and using since last 10 years no problem at all. Complete engine with GearBox will cost you around Rs.55000 and easily avilable in Mayapuri (New Delhi)
