Some reliable sources have said that Natural gas is poised to be cheaper fuel than diesel for the next 100 or 200 years. Also, that some sort of fuel injector has been produced which can convert a diesel run engine into a natural gas one. If that is true (it possibly is) what more modifications will be required to convert my 1400cc Diesel engine car to a CNG one? will it be worthwhile??

Hello Ahijit, before trying to answer your question I wanna know are you speaking about some scenario in INDIA? If so then Man India is way developed than what I thought.
So converting a diesel run engine into a natural gas one is of course possible but requires more than just an injector. It requires few modifications in cooling system (to what I heard) and it may even require new valves, piston rings which will lead to high costs. Also add on a CNG tank.
I don't know much about the practical viability of this conversion in Indian vehicles, considering the following:
1. Diesel price is not very high compared to CNG price in India (Unlike petrol)
2. Conversion costs will be high as it is not a common thing (around 60-70k easily)
3. You may not be assured of the performance and quality, as no authorized conversion centers are available.

Moreover, diesel engines are high energy consuming (in BTU terms) and so using CNG will bring in challenges like higher refilling rates.

I would suggest you to consult an expert in the CNG conversion area and ask him. He may give you more clarity.

Hi,
Natural gas as alternative fuel is yet to be established as a reliable alternative fuel for general usage.Aat the moment going for CNG/LPG kit would be useful depending upon availability of the same in your region.
